Man Plans & God Laughs 🕊️
Man Plans & God Laughs
So much time, wasted away with worrying. Hours, days, months, years, lost to the constant debate of what the future holds. The constant calculations, the constant internal debates. The arguments between man and his true nature, to decide which action to best take course. The overwhelming energy, being completely dispersed, into a completely hypothetical trap.
The old saying of “Man Plans & God Laughs” is the great reminder that we never are truly in control. Although our ego wishes to believe that we’ve got it all mapped out- the giant rock tossed from the hands of God is a violent, yet gentle reminder. To constantly believe that the eternal cycle which we find ourselves within, is meant to continue forever, is comically ignorant to say the least.
Today, a young man jumped into his vehicle, rushing to get to a job he did not love. He drove as fast as he could, to arrive to a destination, that another man had told him to attend. He chased after an imaginary piece of paper, which an evil system controlled and told him was the only thing that he should care for. He slept less than he wanted, ate worst than he deserved, all because he was too busy counting down the days he had to suffer, until he could finally escape to somewhere warm and drink until he could no longer feel his pain.
And then suddenly, out of nowhere-
that young man’s life came to an abrupt end.
The violent, yet subtle reminder to all of us, that tomorrow is never promised. We sit around, calculating and justifying the means, all while fantasizing of an end which never truly appears. At least, not the end we had imagined it to be.

I often think about September 11th.
How thousands of individuals, went about their day, rushing to be somewhere they were deemed necessary to be. How they rushed to board their flights, fought against traffic to arrive to their office- or simply showed up to their shift at the fire station. How these ordinary individuals all arrived to their destinations, completely unaware that today was their day.
I wonder if they enjoyed their breakfast? I wonder if they sipped on their last coffee, and truly savoured the flavour of the coffee beans. Did they kiss their loved ones goodbye, before rushing out the door? Did they hug their children, and tell them how proud they were and how much they loved them? Did they pause at the door, to turn around one last time, and truly absorb what a beautiful life they had lived?
Believing there’s some poetic ending, waiting for all of us at the end of the tunnel, is probably one of the things that keeps us going. The belief, that once we finally arrive to our destination, the trumpets will sound and the cheers will applause our arrival. That the angels will sing, and God himself will greet us, with open arms as we embark towards the next-best-thing.
It’s probably this fantasy that keeps most of humanity going. Working nonstop, never pausing to smell the flowers or soak in the sun. Constantly running around in circles, dreaming of some grand reward awaiting us at the end of our days.
Only to finally arrive, and realize it was all a dream.
✦
The fantasy is what keeps us going. It’s what drives us to continue chasing the madness we see. The never-ending consumption, the never-ending greed. It’s the great deception, driving towards insanity.
And yet, once you finally realize you’ve been lied to your entire life-
you realized that you’ve betrayed yourself for nothing, as the void consumes you for the rest of eternity.
Godspeed.
