Landing in China, something struck me. Within 2 minutes of being here, in a foreign country, my eyes picked up on something that seemed so strange. And yet, when said out loud, it seems like such an obvious statement. Everybody is Chinese. The entire country, constructed out of the same people. An entire nation, build around those who have been here for centuries. A people, which have called this land their home since before the Qing Dynasty united the country for the first time. And yet, I couldn’t help but wonder- Why are my own people not allowed to do the same? Why is it, that my ancestors, are forced to mix and mingle? Why is it that my homeland, my home country, is forced to accept millions upon millions of foreigners, who do not care nor share my values?
