For Whom The Bell Tolls 🔔
Is This The End?
At least, is this what it feels like? Has all this technology, all these black screens- have they simply shown us the inevitable future of mankind?
Sometimes, I feel like the destruction of our civilization is inevitable. I don’t think I feel alone in that sentiment, either. Have we as humans not always sought new ways to wreak havoc upon our own kind? Have we, as mad as we are, always sought new ways to rule over the ashes? The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems.
✶
Humanity has always been doomed. Since the moment we discovered the wheel and planted our first crops. From harnessing fire, to building houses. The inevitable downfall has always been present, lingering in the shadows. Like a wolf, slowly stalking its prey. One can only continue forward so far, before eventually coming face-to-face with the beast.
Perhaps thats the secret, that’s been guarded since the dawn of men. The inevitable ending, where humanity must finally face the consequences of its actions. Where justice finally has its day, and all our evil deeds shall finally be seen through the light. The ultimate day of reckoning, where God will judge us all as a collective group, for what we’ve accomplished.
✶
We as a society are dying- no question about it. Each and every day, we drift further and further down a hole into despair. We reach new lows, conjuring new sins, seeking new abominations, to idolize in our stead. We are hellbent on destroying ourselves, no matter the cost. The irrationality of meeting our consciousness has driven us mad.
And yet, we continue down even further. We push past the limits that have been known to man. If we are ever to be remembered for anything, it is that we are capable of far worse than even the worst of us can imagine. A true medal of honour, to be known as the most degenerate species to ever walk this blessed place we call home.
Despite the darkness of it all- despite the inevitable ending- one must carry forward. One must continue fighting against the darkness which seeks to extinguish us all. For we are the flame of consciousness, which seems to be alone in the cold, dark emptiness of space. Make no mistake, my friends- we are surrounded.
Death is not the finale. It is simply another step we must take in order to become what we are truly meant to be. And that is, to survive. To continue pushing forward, despite the impossible odds which lie ahead. Despite the guaranteed failures, which await us with our every step. To walk into the shadows, fearing no evil- for life is with us, in every single step.
✶
I don’t believe that we as a species have never been here before. I do not hold it to be true, that this is the further we have ever gotten. I truly believe that we as a species, are doomed to repeat the cycle forever, until we finally break through to the next stage. To the next field. To the next adventure where we are the ones who control the ship. For now, all we can do is pray.
Ancient Hindu scripture tells of a story of a great war within humanity, which wiped us off of the face of the planet. From epic tales of war and heroism, to bombs and destruction forevermore- the cycle continues. The sands of time, push forward. The flow and repetition of the human experiment, continue to unfold. No matter what happens next- the story will continue forward.
Maybe this is our punishment. Maybe we are meant to relive the same epic collapse of our civilization, over and over again, until we are finally ready to seize command of it. Until we are finally ready to rise above the noise, and control our own destinies. To become what we have always truly been meant to be. Gods.
✶
The cycle continues. And with it, the pain and suffering as well. However, with each and every failure- we come one step closer to finally rising to our calling. Finally, becoming the species we are meant to be. To finally grasp our own future and wellbeing in the palm of our hands. To no longer wait for the world to save us, but to instead save the world. One can only dream.
Until then, I will continue to dance in the madness. To sing through the pain. To celebrate the destruction. To love through the hate.
For make no mistake, the long night is coming-
And I hold no plans to go quietly into the void.
