Days of Future Past ⏳

 Time Travel.

    One of the most interesting things I’ve ever read about, is Time-Travel. Not the loopy, “Back To The Future” type stuff. I’m talking more about the idea within itself. The thought of manipulating time, so that man can control it. That man can be in charge of his own destiny. That even the final enemy, will bend towards his will.

    What I found so fascinating about it, is more about how we as a species used to think about it in the past. How we used to ponder the questions of the Universe, well before we even had an idea of it being true.

    The story of Gilgamesh comes to mind. I believe, within his tale of heroics, the great Gilgamesh speaks of time travel as well. Of being able to manipulate the very substance we find ourselves swimming within, and controlling the outcome of tomorrow. How a story so old, from so many millenniums ago, deals with this- is beyond me.

    

    What stood out to me the most about learning about Gilgamesh and his desire to time-travel, is the direction he wished to take. Something I read about, throughout the hours and hours of research I’ve done. Something that still, to this day, sticks in my head like a thorn. How all time-travel, when written in the past, was about going forward into the future.

    This may not seem like much of a statement. When analyzing time, I suppose one can only go either forward or back. However, what stunned me the most was how the pre-historic humans, these pre-historic heroes, would only ever thing about venture further ahead down the stream. They only wished to emerge further in time, to make sure that their bloodline and their accomplishments had lasted through the centuries.

    Perhaps this was the burning desire of men with ego’s the size of planets. Perhaps, these heroes simply wished to bathe in the fruits of their glory. In all honesty, I can understand. Being born in an age, where things move so slowly, I too would probably dream of going ahead. Understanding what becomes of my great city, my great nation. Discovering how my legal prevails, through my children, and theirs after them.

    However, this sentiments no longer rings true today. Obviously, there are those who are accelerations, who believe that we should be moving forward with technology all-sails-away. Those who simply wish to see how far we as a species can go. Can we finally become multi-planetary? Can we finally expand beyond the space in which we have known, all our lives? What awaits for us, beyond the unknown ahead? Questions that I too, which to know the answer.

    What bothers me, is how most of society today would likely suggest that they would take time travel, and apply it to our past. How they would travel back in time, to change previous events. How they would venture up stream, instead of down, to alter certain timelines. The idea that the impact they could create, somewhere in the past, would help create a better, clearer today.

    That stands out.

    That stands out like a sore thumb to me. The fact that we, as a society, would change something in the past, points to a huge mistake. Something, somewhere, deep down instead, we all know the truth. Something keep reminding us every day- that we took the wrong path. That we chose to follow a certain direction, and have slowly began to realize that we should have taken a different route.

    It’s haunting, when you truly think about it. Something so crazy as a global consciousness, awake. Something so powerful, that even the numbest of individuals can sense that things aren’t quite adding up. That we as a species made far too grave of a mistake, somewhere in the past, that it must be corrected for good. 

    I often wonder about that. I often wonder what it could be, that has us caught up and clinging to it. How a species, so filled with promise, no longer sees the light which lays ahead.

    Maybe we truly did fuck up, somewhere along the line. Maybe, deep down inside, we all know there is a better way.

I guess only Time can know for certain-

For now, we must keep moving on ahead.
