Every. Single. Day. 🔨

Every. Single. Day.

Do you want it? Are you willing to show up? Every single day?

It seems like an easy question. It seems like something you hear, all the time. However, putting it into practice is a different animal within itself. The ability to truly want whatever it is you are attracting, and willing to sacrifice hours of your life towards obtaining it. The true cost of opportunity, as the world around you continues to turn.

Showing up every single day is a concept that most do not seem to grasp. Most simply believe it means arriving at your destination, and being in the same place as per usual. To show up to your office, sit down in your cubicle, and pat yourself on the back for making it in to work on time. To be able to say that you’ve been present and on time for 5 days of the week, and that you deserve a weekend off to celebrate your mediocrity. That you’ve somehow managed to earn free time as a reward for your good behaviour. That you’ve successfully completed your end of the bargain, and now you are owed.

In reality, all of the previous paragraph is complete nonsense. All of the concepts which are shared amongst the average worker, are nothing more than a fairy tale. A story, which we repeat to ourselves, over and over again. Something to reinforce our poor behaviour, and celebrate it as if we are making progress. The very toxic which holds us back, in all areas of our lives.

Showing up is more than just being physically present. It means showing up and giving it all you have within. Showing up, emptying your will and energy, devoted towards obtain a specific goal. Showing up, rain or shine, and pushing yourself to your limits- then extending slightly further from there. Showing up, regardless of your mood or external factors, understanding that all that matters is the here and now.

Make no mistake- some days are tougher than others. Some days, you simply cannot get out of bed. The thought of waking up and going about your day seems daunting, as external forces from beyond seem to pull you back in. The idea of going to the gym early before work, or staying late at the office to miss your extracurricular plans. The process of giving it your all, through the ups and downs of the day. These are the things which can be daunting from the outside. The idea that this amount of energy and focus will test you beyond your capabilities. That you simply do not know how you will survive.

Regardless, you show up anyways. Regardless, you find a way to survive. The ability to simply not accept defeat as an answer, will drive you further than any skill or talent. The only way you can win the marathon, is to continue driving forward, step-by-step.

Entrepreneurial adventures require tremendous effort. They require you to show up, day in and day out, for very little to show for it. They require you to be present, regardless of anything else. How present can you be, when it’s 35 degrees outside and nothing seems to be going your way? How present can you be, when it’s a Saturday and all your friends are out partying by the water, drink in hand? How much can you accomplish, when the entire world has turned on you, and nobody believes you have what it takes? These are the cold, harsh questions, which drive an individual to make or break.

I once read a great quote from a world-renowned entrepreneur who said that being a start-up is all about being the last man standing. That the true secret to success is not necessarily all the formulas and numbers, but rather the willingness to continue to find a way to win. I think about that often. I realize that the message of endurance and survival is that of simply showing up. Of simply being present, every single day. No matter the issues, no matter the challenge- showing up to conquer the day.

What will you do to conquer your day today? Are you willing to be the last man standing? Or will the outside noise slowly creep in and pull you away?

Either way- I’ll see you tomorrow, and we can compare our notes then.
