Cherry Cola 🍒

 I Had A Dream.

Last night, I was riding a bus. We were headed back from the city. And in my dream, I was drinking a refreshing can of Pepsi. Suddenly, I woke up. I looked around my room, to gather my myself as I emerged from the void called a dream. And suddenly, it hit me- I needed to drink a Pepsi.

Now unfortunately, I was unable to find a Pepsi, as I did not have any in stock. However, what I did find was a nice, cold can of Cherry Coke. Thanking God, I grabbed the can and returned to my humid room, sweating along the way there. Finally, upon returning, I opened the fresh can, echoing a massive pop as the aluminum top cracked under the pressure. I fired up a video game, and enjoyed my time all alone in the late hours of the morning. I loaded Donkey Kong Country: Diddy Kong’s Quest, and enjoyed my beverage. I that moment, life was good. In that moment, I found myself again.

Moral of the story? Drink soda at 2am and play video games. Live a little. Let go and embrace your wild side. Break the rules. Destroy the prison in which you have become so enslaved within.

Honestly, perhaps my dream wasn’t meant to be that deep. Perhaps I was simply thirsty as I lay asleep in the horrid humidity and heat. Regardless, there is always opportunity within chaos. The ability to rewrite the script in which you have been given. We humans have tremendous abilities to re-write anything in our lives, so much as we have the courage to do so.

For myself personally, life has been rather stale. I have been caught up in the process of repeating the same actions, day after day after day. Although consistency is definitely the cornerstone towards building any type of success, it becomes all-consuming when  habits turn into routine. Hence why the athlete will always remain superior to the weightlifter. The ability to think on their feet, and switch it up while they continue to strive towards their goals.

Nobody makes it out alive. Life is a one-way trip, which is guaranteed in death. There has yet to be a single individual in the history of the world who has been able to escape the inevitable. At least, not a single individual in history that I know of. The truth is always stranger than reality. And in reality, all I know is that I know nothing.

As the weekend is fast approaching, and the inevitable foot-off-the-gas is around the corner, I want to remind everybody reading this that it is encouraged to do something out of the ordinary. It is encouraged to go participate in an activity you would normally not do. Break free from the organized structure which you have emerged yourself in, and live a little bit. Enjoy that piece of cake. Eat a bowl of pasta. Have one drink too many. Go see that concert downtown. Do whatever is necessary to remind yourself that you are still alive, still in power. Do whatever it takes to no longer be a slave.

Life moves fast. Most people look back and ask themselves, where did the time go? The clock waits for nobody. The constant pushing forward, towards oblivion. Regardless, it is crucial to take a deep breath. To stop and smell the flowers. To regain a sense of being present in the here and now. Being alive is a gift. A gift, which we have been granted by God Himself. The very creator of the Universe, allowing us to experience this human form. We wouldn’t be very grateful if we were not to take advantage of it, while we still can.

Make a list, and figure out what you wish to do with these next 3 days. Reflect, and find an activity you haven’t done before. Go play Volleyball at a public park. Pick up a racket and learn Pickleball instead. Take a train and head off East, getting off somewhere you’ve never been before. Pop into a restaurant, and order 3 courses. Go for a walk in a new park. Do something- anything- just to remind yourself that you’re still alive.

We are here today, and gone tomorrow. Nobody ever knows when it’ll be their last moment. We as humans have a tendency to live as if tomorrow is promised, and that we’ll live forever. It’s only once we encounter true pain that we realize this is not the case. That we are in fact only here for a moment. Only here for a split second. Nothing more than a spec of dust, floating through the hands of time. Take advantage of it. Embrace it. Reach out and experience life before it passes on by. Allow yourself to feel something which you have never felt before.

In sorrow, seek happiness. In death, seek life.

        Glory Be,

                    Amen.
