Hey, Hey- I Wanna Be A Rock Star.

Nickleback is a good rock band. There, I said it. No regrets.

For some reason, they get hated on a lot. Almost like a bad joke, where everybody has been brainwashed into simply hating them because they think it’s cool. Because they think it’s the fun thing to do. Crazy how nobody can think for themselves anymore, eh?

When you take a step back and analyze it, you realize most things today are simply hated on because it’s considered cool. The ability to analyze things and form your own opinion upon them is a dying art to say the least. Music is a prime example. Most people simply listen to a song, and hold no opinion over it. They simply spend their time, looking around, waiting to see what everybody else thinks. They want to fit in with the crowd so bad, that they keep silent until they’re told how to act.

In today’s world, people are afraid to be individuals. They’re afraid to stick their neck out from the pack, and hold their own opinions. We are being mass manipulated by social media more than ever. It is causing even the brightest individuals to coward away and hold in their own opinions, in the fear of being ostracized from the pack.

In the earliest days of society, ostracizing was a main strategy to keep the groups together. While the men would be off hunting for food, the women would raise the children and form societies. These societies would consist of social hierarchies amongst other habits, used with the sole purpose to strengthen the group and build a better foundation. For these men and women, society was a literal life or death experience.

Ostracizing was introduced to societies by the women as a way to keep everybody in check. To make sure that the group was constantly on the same page, and that their morals and values did not stray too far form the main path. This strategy proved to be extremely successful, especially when you consider how remote most societies were. If a woman were to be outed from the group, she would be forced to walk hundreds of miles, simply to find another society. Once finding another society, the group would immediately question why she had been ostracized from her original community. Overall, the entire process was a slippery slope- one that more often than not lead to death.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. In today’s world, ostracizing is a social strategy used by groups more than ever. In today’s world, identity politics have taken over, and every individual is not a representation of what they think. The individual is forced to stand up and speak out, to show their true colours and speak their mind. However, as soon as the words coming out of the individuals mouth do not represent the thoughts of those organizing the societies- they are cast out. They are shunned and viewed in a negative light, successfully black-balling them from the community.

Overall, the society that discriminates against its individuals has very little chance of developing anything new. Creativity requires originality, which requires an individual to not be afraid to stick out their neck for their own opinion. It requires people who are not afraid to make mistakes, in order to put themselves out there and discover not only who they are, but what they believe as well. A society which has all of its thinking performed by a group think-tank has little to no chance of being successful in the long run. If everybody thought the same, how would we have discovered gravity? If everybody believed the same thing, how would we discover that we travel around the sun?

Advancements in society are caused by the individual. The individual, who is not afraid to put themselves out there- even if they are considered “wrong”. The action or putting oneself out in the open, can cause inspiration for others to step out and find their own path. Perhaps the individual is not the one who successfully discovers the truth on their first try- but they definitely are the one which inspires the next of kin to keep looking.

Individuals create change. They are the driving force, behind the madness. They are the ones which hold the power to steer the ship and change directions for us all. As famously quoted, at first the individual is laughed at, then mocked, then copied. Every single person who has lived in a controlled society has pondered the idea of escape. Pondered the idea of breaking free and finding their own path. It is the individual, the one who is ridiculed and mocked, who is truly free.

For their freedom is like a spark,

igniting the fire within all who have their eyes glued upon them.

        Glory Be,

                    Amen.
