Habits 🏃🏼‍♂️

 Habits.

Habits are what make anything possible. Not routine. Habits.

Routine kills. Plain and simple. The purpose of routine is to run thru the motions, until eventually you’re nothing more than a shell. A hardened, strengthened shell, perhaps. But a shell, none the less. Life slowly becomes nothing more than a constant check-list. A run-thru of doing certain tasks, over and over again. Gym, every single morning at 7am. Breakfast, every single day at 9am. Work, every single day at 12pm. And over and over again.

The creation of routine is designed to slowly suck the life out of you. Slowly, but surely, remove your body from your spirit. Next thing you know, you’re doing all these different things, without getting anywhere. You’ve created the perfect recipe for running in place. Constantly on the go, with nowhere to run to. Most individuals die to routine, in one way or another.

Habits, on the other hand, are completely different. Habits are difficult and challenging, to say the least. They create a chaotic world, where the individual must constantly twist and turn, to make things work. They must be quick on their feet, willing to learn, and adapt on the go. Habits are the key to success in any field, in my personal opinion.

Take the gym, for example. If one believes that working out every single day at 7am, 5 days a week, will give them the results they wish- they’re probably not going to succeed. Think about how many people you see, at the gym, every single day, at the exact same time, who have become complacent. Those who simply go thru the motions, because thats what their schedule demands. They show up, at the same time, workout the same way, listen to the same music, and have the same conversation. Over and over again.

Growth requires you to become uncomfortable. Plain and simple. The ability to no longer have the comfort of simply going thru the motions is a blessing. It is a gift which allows an individual to truly shed their skin and become something more. At the gym, most people fall into their routine of mediocracy. They simply go thru the motions, running in place. Growth and becoming uncomfortable are the keys to success. Being able to adapt mentally, forces your body to adapt physically as well.

Flexibility is a huge skill. Stubborn, yet flexible. That’s one of my favourite saying. Stubborn, in the goals you are pursuing- yet flexible, on how you reach them. Think of an individual who wishes to get into shape. Does he become complacent, and simply go thru the motions of showing up to the gym every single day? I’d argue that the individual who does that, will not achieve the best results. Sure, they will have something to show for it- but it will be a fraction of their true potential.

Now think about an athlete. An individual, who is put to the test in multiple different ways, to achieve multiple different goals. All of a sudden, it becomes quite clear that the athlete is leagues ahead of the individual who simply shows up to the gym. The athlete is capable of making things happen, regardless of the world around them. Some days, the athlete shows up at the gym for 6am, because they have a full day ahead. Other days, they are forced to get in a workout on their lunch break, because their day is just so hectic. Other times, after work is the ideal scenario. Constant change, yet constant motion. Always attacking the day with a new frame of mind.

An athlete is by far superior because they push themselves in different domains. The average gym-goer does the same exercises, applying the same weights, forever. How many people do you know who can never achieve a better bench-press? How many individuals can you think of who simply plateau? They become nothing more than creatures of habit. They become shells of what they truly are meant to be. Yet for some reason, the athlete excels at all that they do. They become better and better, as time goes on.

The difference between an athlete and a gym-goer is simply their habits. The athlete goes for runs, bikes, swims and weightlifters. Where as, the gym-goer simply shows up. They arrive at the gym, use the same locker, and do the same thing. Over and over again. The deadly routine, slowly but surely destroying their potential.

Habits create results. Habits create success. Habits create growth. In order to truly become who you are meant to be, habits are necessary. The habit of reading. The habit of writing. The habit of playing piano. The habit of running. The habit of walking. The list goes on and on.

Life is meant to be lived, facing new challenges every single day. We as humans are meant to push ourselves, to evolve. Routine kills us. Plain and simple. It becomes nothing more than going thru the motions, slowly decreasing us to a shell of who we can be. Slowly lowering our vibrations and potential, until we are no longer.

Habits create. Routine kills.

Plain and simple.

        Glory Be,

                    Amen.
