Happy Mother’s Day!
What a Sunday it is. Time to take a moment and reach out to the mother in your life, and thank her for bringing you into this world. Or curse it. Whichever one you’re feeling at this point.
Mother’s day is a gentle reminder to celebrate your parents while they’re still alive. Most people would consider themselves beyond fortunate if they were able to still reach out and speak to their mother. I often think of my own mother, who would do anything to still be able to call her mother, and wish her a happy mother’s day.
We as humans fight against the hands of time. And the hands of time win, every single day. They continue to move forward, regardless of what we think or hold true. Time waits for no man or woman, to run its course. We are ultimately at the mercy of time.
Sunday’s are often used for reflection. Reflection of the week that was, to better understand what can be. What we as individuals can do to increase our time, and make the most out of it. In the end, time is all we have, here on this Earth. A very small, limited amount of time, to create change. To create a difference. We are all gifted with it, yet no one knows when their time is up. We do not know when we will draw our last breath, speak our last words or say goodbye for the final time. All we have is the now in which we find ourselves in.
Looking back, you quickly realize how much time you have spent, wasting it on something else. Wasting it on somebody else’s dreams or goals, without pursuing your own interests. Spending all your waking hours and energy, chasing something you do not even care about. The human species is one of the most complex, yet fascinating, forms of life to ever exist.
Ask any elderly man or woman, and they will tell you that their greatest regret is that they did not spend more time doing the things they loved. That they wasted so much of it, chasing meaningless things and entertaining meaningless ideas. That they got lost in the moment, and ended up living half a life. Half a dream. Half an adventure. Living life on one’s own terms, understanding that we are the true captains of our own destiny- that is the starting point of the greatest journey of all. Spending time with the ones we love, attracting the dreams and goals we all hold, creating something that will last beyond ourselves. Those are the only true things that will matter.
Time is undefeated. No man or woman has ever outlived time. It is a force of nature, which is all-consuming. Once we finally learn to accept the cold, harsh truth, we may finally begin our journey. If we cannot bring anything with us into the next life, then what purpose can we hold while living here? Everybody is destined for their own answer to that question. In my opinion, it’s all about leaving something behind. Leaving something so that others may benefit and reap the rewards of your hard work. So that you may touch and connect with as many souls as possible, in this short journey we call life.
Connection is rare, especially now-a-days. Everybody is “Social”, yet we lack depth more than ever. You may know one thousand people, but would you truly know their pain if they opened up and shared? The reality is, we are more superficial than ever. We are operating on a shallow depth of connection and understanding, leaving the human mind craving something deeper. I often think about the notion that if you removed sex from most relationships, they would fall apart. I believe that. If you were to remove the physical contact between a man and woman, how many of the relationships will truly withstand the test of time? How many men and women would still battle together, through thick and thin, if the one thing they indulge in the most was to be removed?
We live in a time where connection is non-existent. Where getting to know somebody- to truly know them- is something or a forgotten memory. A practice which we no longer hold dear. How many reading could tell me their partners favourite activities? Their favourite dish? Maybe those are easy. What about their biggest fears? Their darkest traumas? How many of you could actually close your eyes and describe your partner, both inside and out? The art of knowing someone is quickly fading, as the digital world continues to dominate and take over.
My goals here on this Earth, with my limited time I share, are quite simple. I want to connect. I want to connect people. I want to connect ideas. I want to drive forth a force so powerful, that the world will never be the same again. To re-introduce the last art of getting to know someone. Truly know them. Their darkest corners of their imagination, exposed. To show people all round the world that they are not alone. That we are all in this journey, together. That your suffering does not need to be your burden to bear.
We as humans have an incredible life in which we can all help one another. We can share both victories and burdens, to help ease the load. Everybody needs a hand, once in a while. Even the strongest of souls, needs somebody to lean on. Yet we seem to have forgotten how to be of service. We seem to have simply no longer care about one another. We seem to be so caught up in our day-to-day, that we have lost sight of the bigger picture. We have buried our heads in the sand.
Together, humans are capable of anything. And I truly do mean, anything. We are far more powerful than anything we can even imagine. After all, we were created in the image of God himself.
Perhaps it’s time we return to our roots, and remember who we truly are.
Glory Be,
Amen.
