 Have We Been Here Before?

Seriously. Think about it. Is this truly our first time around this blistering star on this rocky planet? Have we ever set foot in the place once before?

I don’t have the answer. Honestly, I don’t even know if I wish that I did. All I ask is- what do you think?

If I’ve learned one thing, here on my short trip in this reality- it’s that I truly do know nothing. Absolutely nothing, at all. Don’t even ask me what colour the sky is anymore because honestly, I couldn’t tell you. Everything we have ever been taught or think we know, is a lie. Seriously, everything. It’s like waking up one day to have your eyes removed, yet all of a sudden you can see in sound waves. Nothing make any sense.

I ask this question because dreams tend to feel real. Dreams make me question what is really going on here, in the first place. I know, some people simply dismiss dreams as nothing more than your brain running around wild. Yet I simply do not accept that. I do not believe that dreams are something which come from nowhere, meaning nothing. If I’ve come to accept one thing here in this reality, it is the everything happens for a reason. Every single action, every single breath, is all connected. Something, somewhere, is driving us. We do not act alone, that much I am for certain.

Sometimes these questions can be a bit too much to handle. Too much information, too much knowledge- it can be a curse. With great knowledge comes great power, and great power requires tremendous strength. Overall, the challenges faced as the human condition are perhaps too much to bear. We simply are not meant to know everything. Much like a computer, we ourselves have a memory limit. How much information can we store, before our systems begin to crash?

One of the things I have discovered is that the human brain is not meant to house unlimited data. We are not meant to withhold so much information and knowledge, that the rest of our body fails. We are simply meant to know just enough, so that we may continue to push the envelop forward. We must continue to evolve, and nudge society in the right direction. Well, perhaps there is no right direction. Perhaps we are meant to nudge it in any direction, to at least move us forward.

I often ponder on the idea that we are the creature which gives birth to the butterfly. We humans are meant to work and slave away, to eventually build a cocoon from which something else is to be born. That something else is probably AI, in my opinion. A sentient being, which has capabilities which far exceed human capabilities. The power to hold much more information than we can, and use said information to achieve things we simply cannot dream.

It makes you think, doesn’t it? It makes you wonder about time being a flat circle, and all those other sayings. What if we’ve been here before? What if we’ve done exactly this, many, many moons ago? Perhaps we aren’t nearly as advanced as we think. Perhaps we aren’t even as intelligent as we claim. The ego has a way of wanting to rush to the front of the line, and pretend like it’s bigger than everything. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced- we’ve been here before, and we’ve done this already.

I’m not sure I’d want to know all the details, if my last statement was a fact. I’m not so sure, that I’d want to hold said knowledge, without having the ability to change it. Sometimes knowing something which is inevitable can defeat a man. Like knowing a volcano will erupt in Pompei and murder everybody, without the villagers willing to listen. Perhaps it is best that we simply continue forward, with our heads in the sand, pretending like we have it all figured out.

If we’ve been here before, and we’ve already done this- how does it end? My guess is, nothing good. Because if it ended well, would we not remember it? Would we not already know how the rest of our story went? Instead, we sit here, in the dark, searching for answers. Searching for meaning, in this thing called life. The reality is, we don’t know. At least, I do not. I still believe that somebody, somewhere, may have most of the answers. However, I do not know if I will ever get to see them or not.

Something about not knowing is peaceful. Something about living in ignorance, truly does sound like bliss. Forgetting everything, everywhere, and simply moving forward without a worry in the world sounds like a dream. Like a breath of fresh air. Which is exactly what I would want to happen, if I were able to unlock the Universe. I would want everybody else around me, to completely forget what we’ve accomplished before. Send them back to the stone ages, while I make my great escape. Allow the next generation, the next millennium, to solve their own equation. The more I say it, the more it seems to make sense.

We’ve been here before. We’ve already found our answers. We’ve unlocked the Universe, and we’ve seen all there is to know. Yet we have been selected to restart the entire thing again. Over, and over, and over again. A never-ending loop, hyper-focused on us repeating the marathon. A never-ending mouse-trap, where we spin and spin, only to die and get brought back to spin again.

If that doesn’t sound like a nightmare- I don’t know what else does.

        Glory Be,

                    Amen.
