Under Construction 🚧

Do you ever wonder what it’s like to be normal?

Seriously, do you ever think about it? Do you ever sit back and pretend how easy life would be, if you simply folded and did whatever it took to fit in?

Imagine life. Waking up, not having a care in the world. Hurrying up as quickly as possible, just so you can make it to your group of friends. You all work together, in the same environment, tackling the same jobs. I often think of construction as a prime example. A group of individuals, all working together, on the same thing. They all share the same lifestyle, same passion, driven by the same clocks. Wake up early, get to work, grind away, finish your day, home, supper, bed. Like clockwork. Monday to Friday, no days off.

Honestly, it doesn’t sound half bad. It sounds almost, relaxing. Constantly knowing that you have a team of workers, waiting and depending on you, to show up every single day. Every single day, you do need to think about anything. All you have to do, is simply show up. Wake up, show up, swing your hammer. Bing, Bang, Boom. Sounds peaceful if I’m being honest. No thinking required.

I’m in no way take a shot at construction workers, either. I know plenty from my hometown, who love what they do. Most of them are great guys as well. Stand-up individuals, who work hard for a living and everything else they do. I truly admire their ability to put their nose down and grind, every single day. There’s just something about it that doesn’t fit for me. I guess I’m just not cut out to be a construction worker.

The ability to sit back and think is something which is a gift and a cruse. Seriously. The greatest handicap that a thinker has, is that all they do is sit around and think. Thinking requires action- if not, you get caught in a never-ending loop. A never-ending mental gymnastics match, where each question leads to three more. Kind of like opening a door, only to find another hallway filled with options, all leading to more and more. Some of the greatest Greek philosophers were all thinkers. Hence why they have statues built in their honour, sitting around thinking all the time. In reality, I’m sure they did more than just that. However, to the outside world- their legacy always remains as such.

Everybody wishes to be apart of a team, in some capacity. Some people prefer working alone, no doubt about it. However, even the greatest hermits require human connection. They require the ability to sit, talk, and share their efforts with other like-minded individuals. Hence with my previous example of construction, all sharing the same wavelength. It’s crucial to find people who share your wavelength, in order to build a proper team. I believe that is one of the things which I have struggled with as of late. Building my own team. Finding individuals who I can call my brothers. It’s no simple task, that’s for sure.

When push comes to shove, you want to make sure that the people behind you have your back. That was one of the reasons why the Spartan army was so efficient in all their fighting. They created a system, where every man knew that their brothers on the right and left were unconquerable. They formed a bond, a brotherhood, allowing them to create a single unit when out in the field. Most of their success throughout history can be credited to that very system. Always moving together, as one. The very sight must have been something terrifying to witness. It’s something completely different, fighting a thousand men who are all moving on their own, vs. fighting a thousand men who have formed a single unit. The concept of brotherhood and teamwork, embodied in the physical world.

The more things change, the more things stay the same. Time has the funny way of repeating itself, over and over again. Classic warfare, with spears and arrows, has pretty much gone away. The old world has been shed, a long time ago. Yet, the strategies used by the Spartans are more present than ever. The ides, the concept, of brotherhood and warfare, as still prevalent. The very key to their success, has become the key to our own. Amazing, how despite all the time which has passed since their rising, that they figured it out before anyone. I suppose they deserve their flowers, while we’re still around.

In today’s world, brotherhood is the very foundation that one must build their life upon. They must find individuals, who they can build and relate with. Much like construction, a team of individuals working together towards a common goal. A group, driven to achieve the same results. Being on the same page, being on the same wavelength, looking out for one another. Perhaps that is the key which I have been missing, all along.

Life is a lonely journey, no question about it. You’re born alone, you die alone. It really is all about the time you spend in between those two events. Perhaps we are meant to be here, to find our brothers. To find individuals, who share the same purpose and goals. To create and build a single unit, capable of conquering all. Perhaps we are meant to be Spartans, after all. War has changed, the world has been taken over.

We no longer live in the age of sticks and stones. However, the warfare has not. The battles which rage on, continue to grow. Now, more than ever, we are facing global threats, which are attempting to conquer our soul. Should we spread out, and fight as individuals? Millions of souls, attempting their own version of goals? Or should we unite, form an alliance. Form a single unit, moving together as one. I think the Spartans figured it out pretty quickly. Perhaps it’s up to us to continue on using their methods to achieve our goals.
